The true origins of the Surf Club are shrouded in mystery. At some time prior to 1955 it was first established at 4201 Bladensburg Road in Colmar Manor. By the time it was to become Chick Hall's Surf Club, Colmar Manor and Cottage City was where many folks from the District and surounding areas would go for the nightlife. No one knows for sure why it was originally named the "Surf Club", although there are several theories.
